Fairy babies and birth in a bottle

Oh how I love to composite! I could do this kind of work all day everyday. Where the only limit is my imagination. Let me tell you how these images came to be. I am in a couple of composite groups on Facebook. A member in one of those groups posted a link to a site that had a composite contest (www.paintcandy.org). I haven't done a composite in a while and needed to practice. So I worked on this first image for a day, making sure to follow all the rules (it was the last day of the contest) and submitted in time.

The contest ended up not being a contest that week after all, and that's ok. I wasn't in it for any prize or anything. It was fun and I got to practice some Photoshop skills. I learned that there are a few tricks I have forgotten how to do because I haven't used them in a while. This image was last weeks submission. I thought it would be interesting to put a pregnant woman (A.K.A. my best friend and one of my favorite models Shannon) in a bottle, in a storm.JourneyComposite

For the image this week I decided to use my other favorite model. 🙂 My little fairy baby is just a cuteness overload.

Pretty Penny

Precious Penelope

I put it out on my Facebook page that I was looking for some expecting mothers. Some so early maybe no one knew yet. I received a few responses. But only one of them worked out. And I am so glad it did. As it turned out I was expecting myself and didn't know when I announced that I needed mommies. So it was good only one worked out. Not sure I would have had the time to do more than one. Anyway, it was a progression. We got together about every 2 months at the same location. I wanted to show seasons changing as well as momma growing. I really enjoyed shooting these and being a part of the journey. It was also fun to compare notes, our due dates were only a week apart. I'm still working on some of the things I want to do with these shoots. But wanted to share something. So here is one angle of the progression. There will be more as time and baby permits.

Hello Holly

Hello Holly

It's been an eventful 6 months. Not shooting as much as I would like to, but it's worth it! If you follow me on Facebook or anywhere else then you already know. Just over 6 months ago this little girl stole our hearts! She keeps us busy, but she also keeps us smiling. She has got to be one of the happiest babies I have ever known. She thinks everything is funny. And she loves everyone she meets! Look at her and she will smile and squeal with excitement. At the moment our lives are filled with cloth diapers (a post for another day, long story), nursing, home school, and baby kisses. We are so blessed!!

Happy Birthday to me!!!

We went back to the specialist on Friday and great news!!! The placenta has moved!! No more light duty for me, well no more than any other pregnancy anyway. Now to get off the couch and back to work. Just in time for warmer weather too. Does it get any better? Thank you to everyone for your prayers and support.

Well here she is, can't wait to meet her.

2nd grade book report and pumpkin Jesus

My 2nd grader who loves Star Wars, Minecraft, legos and weapons was assigned a book report. He was to fill out the worksheet and decorate a pumpkin (without cutting it) to look like a character in the book. I ask him what book he wants to use and he chooses one we recently read. "We're going to Heaven" by Rick Tancreto. He was given this book at our county fair this year. I also asked him which character he wanted to do with the pumpkin. Of course he wanted to make a Jesus pumpkin. I did assist him on this project but for the most part he did it on his own. In the worksheet he was to describe the character. His answer, cool, chill, peaceful, loved people and animals. I don't think I could have said it better myself.

Baby B is six months old.

Look at this handsome little man! I couldn't help but fall in love with him the moment I saw him. He's so happy!! And those cheeks, my goodness those cheeks!! I could squish them all day. Baby B is 6 months old now and growing so fast. Look at him sitting up all by himself. We visited a great little spot in Solomon's Island where the light was just perfect and the weather was fantastic that day too!! It was the perfect day for a family photo shoot!

_MG_4181

And look at that amazing smile. I think this shot was my favorite!

_MG_4182

I don't normally shoot downward at babies sitting up (afraid they might topple over lol), but at this time I could not get his attention. He was focused on my daughter Marlee who was my assistant that day so I got in front of her to snag this shot.

A beautiful family right!??! I know I think so!

Let's get personal

For my own entertainment I have started sketching ideas for some things I wanted to shoot. I have done a few of them. And I am really surprised at how close my final images are to my original sketches. It's so much fun. I just have to share. Can you tell me what this image says to you? If you can read in this image what I am trying to express I might get brave enough to show you my stick figure sketch. LOL that would be for your entertainment, they are awful! I will also share more sketch and final product posts.

Expecting Carter

I have this friend who is more like a sister. You have probably seen her here before. I like photographing her, and she likes the spot light. One of the many reasons we are a great team. Well she is due any day now with baby number 4. You can follow her beautiful story HERE. You will learn some things about trying to conceive and all the heartache and joy that comes with it. You will also learn what a rainbow baby is, if you don't already know.

The whole Beautiful family.

I love catching the moments in between. And these two have a LOT of those!!

See what I mean?

The weather was pure perfection! Sun and storm at the same time! It was like a dream!

Another of those in between moments. It looks all sweet, what he really said was, "I'm not looking at your belly". Aaaaand she giggles!!

A love assignment

It's no secret that children seem to grow up too fast. I hear mom's complain and cry about it all the time. My answer, document, document, document!!! Another thing I hear complaints about is mom's feel guilty. Guilty for so many things, decisions they have made, taking time for themselves, spending money on themselves, the list goes on and on. And I myself do this often too. We worry, we stress, I could have, I should have...

My oldest turned 18 and graduated high school last month. And while I am so proud of the young man he is, I still sometimes wonder how my decisions and mistakes in life may have affected him. I have learned, I have to forgive myself, and stop being so down on myself. Then one day last week we were sitting on the front porch just talking and he says to me "Do you know what I love about myself?" It is not the answer to that question that is important, it's the statement within the question. He loves himself. And he knows why. I think everyone can take a lesson from that. We should all sit down and figure out what we love about ourselves. It may just put a big fat shadow over all that guilt and self doubt.

So here's my assignment to you. Go make a list of the things you love about yourself, then share them with someone you love, and make them do the same. It's funny how we spend so much time teaching our children things, and they turn around and teach us something when least expect it.

As good as it gets | Lusby family photographer

I get a phone call yesterday from  my 3 girls. They want a picture of the 3 of them to put in a frame they got their grandmother for her birthday. So ok, I'll meet them out somewhere snap a few pretty shots of them, print them at walgreens so they can have them right away. And go about my day. Or so I thought. I meet with them at one of my favorite locations to shoot, and it was all down hill from there. These goofy children were not interested in taking even the simplest direction. So this is what Grandma got for her birthday (all unedited) ...

Not too bad, kind of cute.

Playtime with Mom | Southern Maryland photographer

Today I got to play dress up with my mother. The challenge here is she does not like to smile when getting her picture taken. But she did. 🙂

IMG_7754

And this was her oh no you made me smile and snapped it face. Silly woman laughing at me, did she really think I was going to let her just grin at me the whole time?!!? I don't think so.

Ha ha Mom, made you smile! I love you!!

If you think your mother would not want a shoot like this, think again. EVERY woman needs to do this one time in their life no matter what phase of life they are in. You are all more beautiful than you know, every single one of you. I promise!!

Cicada madness | Southern Maryland photographer

This post may have a yuck factor. My 6yr. old looked at the screen and wanted to know why I took such scary pictures. I am just as fascinated as I am grossed out by these little guys. So I spent 4 hours photographing these buggers today. Oh how I love to shoot out doors in my PJ's!! I happened to catch one not out of it's shell yet. So I photographed the progression. There were 2 of them I watched today, but only 1 I got to see from the start. Watch this slide show to see the progression for yourself. As you watch look at the eyes, it was looking right at me every time! Go ahead push play, you know you want to!! Oh yeah, hover over each one to see the time it was taken. Enjoy the show...
